Key Research Model Applications of Running Wheel Activity
Mice housed in home-cages equipped with a running wheel will voluntarily start to run in it. Voluntary wheel running is routinely used to assess the general health of mice, physical performance and relevant model exercise training regimes. This setup enables the discrimination of pharmacological efficacy of novel compounds on activity, endurance and circadian rhythms in rodents. Rotations are detected at high temporal resolution and subsequently processed and analysed with the AHCODA™ software.

When placed in a cage equipped with a Running Wheel, mice require 5 – 10 days to reach a stable activity level and circadian rhythm (~8 days for this mouse).
