Key Research Model Applications of Open Field Test
The open field test measures changes in activity and anxiety-related behaviour in rodents due to their natural aversion to brightly lit, open areas. Non-anxious mice and rats tend to explore the novel, open white arena. Anxiogenic phenotypes or gross motor function changes can be detected by tracking changes in velocity, the total distance moved or by determining the time spent in the arena centre.
